
Become a STEM MentHER Mentee
STEM MentHER inducts learners into each University Division annually. To become a mentee, learners must be nominated by their teacher or school principal during the open nomination call. See the eligibility criteria and nomination process below.

Eligibility Criteria:

Be a female learner in Grade 12 during your first year of residence in the programme. You can be in Grade 11 (entering Grade 12) when nominated.

Be a learner at a school in close proximity to a STEM MentHER division for which you are nominated to join. For example, attending a school in Johannesburg with a nomination to join the UJ or WITS division.

Wish to pursue a career in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics Fields.

STEM MentHER reserves the right to announce a criteria theme each year to address skill shortages in STEM in South Africa.

Nominations for 2025 are OPEN!
Nominations are open from 16 December 2024 and will close on 20 February 2025.

The nomination form is an online form that must be completed by your teacher or principal. The following is required to complete your nomination:

A copy of your term four Grade 11 results.

Upload a motivation letter (in PDF format) written by yourself (student). The letter must confirm the intended career choice with reasons and indicate special awards, leadership roles and extramural activities.

A clear statement about your selected STEM field and career of interest.

Nomination Deadline is 20 February 2025.

Successful candidates will be announced on 3 March 2025 via STEM MentHER platforms.
